Sam Bourgeois

Director, GCI Education

Responsibilities: As Director of GCI Education, Sam serves as the day-to-day account manager for GCI Education customers. He works closely with GCI’s Technical Services, Product Development, Sales (Solutions) Engineering, and the Sales Manager to ensure quality project implementation and high-touch for GCI Education customers. Sam also helps maintain strategic relationships with school district technology staff, business managers and school leadership.

Experience: Sam has more than 10 years of experience in technology and education, with nearly 8 of those years spent working in bush Alaska school districts. He has seen firsthand the challenges these schools face and is passionate about equitable access to resources regardless of location.

Sam started his career teaching in Louisiana. After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, he decided to make the move to rural Alaska to teach and eventually manage the school’s network and hardware. Sam later moved to Anchorage and worked as an education consultant for The Chariot Group. For the past four years Sam worked for the Lower Yukon School District, first as the Technology Coordinator then the Director of Technology. Sam served as the advocacy chair of the Alaska Society for Technology in Education (ASTE) and has been a guest speaker at the Alaska Staff Development Network (ASDN) on occasion.

Education and Certification: B.A. in Secondary Education and Social Studies from McNeese University in Louisiana and a Masters of Science, Curriculum & Instruction: Concentration in Technology from Grand Canyon University. Sam has his teaching certificate and is Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNAX) certified from New Horizons, Las Vegas.
